Alexander Rothaug

 

Alexander Rothaug (1870 - 1940) was an Austrian painter. received his first painting lessons from his father. In 1884 he began an apprenticeship as a sculptor with Johann Schindler. Between 1885 and 1892 Rothaug studied at the Vienna Academy under Franz Rumpler, Christian Griepenkerl. Among other things he also worked as a stage designer and frequently went on educational trips, especially in Southern Europe. He began to regularly exhibit his works and created several monumental ceiling and wall paintings based on his experiences as a stage painter. Today his works are mostly found in private collections.
