ABOUT THIS PIECE Jean-Francois Millet's The Gleaners was made in 1857 and the original painting is in Musee d’Orsay Paris. The original size of the work is 84 x 111 cm and is made of oil on canvas. It depicts three peasant women gleaning a field of stray stalks of wheat after the harvest. The Artist: Jean-François Millet (1814 – 1875) was a French artist and one of the founders of the Barbizon school in rural France. Millet is noted for his paintings of peasant farmers and can be categorized as part of the Realism art movement.
