ABOUT THE WORK August Macke's Two Girls was created in 1913 and is in Stadelsches Kunstinstitut Frankfurt. The original size of the work is 130 x 100 cm and is made of oil on canvas. Everything around the two girls is in motion. People and objects are dissolved into crystalline, geometric forms. Figures duplicate themselves, colorful lines and bright cones of light crisscross the image. Macke's painting demonstrates his influence on the art of the Italian Futurists, who glorified speed and technology. At the same time, he was inspired by the abstract formal language of the French Cubists. Macke designed the two girls in a formally coherent and almost classical manner, without allowing them to blend into the bustling urban scene. The Artist: August Macke (1887 – 1914) was a German Expressionist painter. He was one of the leading members of the German Expressionist group Der Blaue Reiter (The Blue Rider).
