ABOUT THE WORK Albrecht Dürer's The Lamentation was created in 1500 and is in Alte Pinakothek München. The size of the work is 151,9 x 121,6 cm and is made of oil on wood. The 'Lamentation of Glim' is the epitaph of the Nuremberg goldsmith Albrecht Glim and his wife Margret Holtzmann, who died in 1500. Both are depicted with their children and the family coat of arms in the foreground. The epitaph originally hung on a pillar in Nuremberg's Preachers' Church, which also housed Albrecht Glim's grave. Before 1547, his son had the painting removed and sold. The Artist: Albrecht Dürer, (1471 - 1528) painter and printmaker generally regarded as the greatest German Renaissance artist. His vast body of work includes altarpieces and religious works, numerous portraits and self-portraits, and copper engravings.
