ABOUT THIS PIECE Renaissance Painter Albrecht Altdorfer's Susanna at the Bath was created in 1526 and the painting is in Alte Pinakothek, Munchen. The story from the thirteenth chapter of the Book of Daniel relates the attempted rape of the virtuous Susanne by the two Elders of the Babylonian community. The young Daniel ferrets out the truth, and the culprits are punished accordingly. The Artist: Albrecht Altdorfer (c. 1480 - 1538) was a German painter, engraver and architect of the Renaissance working in Regensburg, Bavaria. Along with Lucas Cranach the Elder and Wolf Huber he is regarded to be the main representative of the Danube School setting biblical and historical subjects against landscape backgrounds of expressive colours.
